Willem Vunderink
Willem graduated in tax law in 1996 at the Erasmus Rotterdam University and during his professional career he specialized in logical and mathematical analysis techniques that can be applied to prevent tax valuation controversy (between investors and tax authorities) on various types of transactions. Willem has over 20 years of experience in structured finance and corporate finance/M&A, starting at EY where he was a tax partner and headed EY’s Amsterdam based M&A/tax practice until 2008. From 2009 to 2018 he was M&A-tax partner at KPMG Meijburg & Co. In 2018, together with Meijburg partner Kai de Vries, he founded Vunderink De Vries to continue and further expand the specialty services practice for private equity funds and private equity backed companies and their management teams. Willem is recognized by leading private equity firms as an expert in management equity plans. Over the past two decades Willem developed and implemented innovative financing and investment structures for clients in various industries. Willem has lectured in M&A courses at the International Tax Academy (IBFD) and Nyenrode University and is currently lecturer for the M&A course at Grotius Academy, Radboud University Nijmegen.
Reender Beks
Business origination advisor in private equity and venture capital, aiming at full equity alignment and optimal outcomes for allstakeholders; practice includes M&A deals, valuations, funding (including Steppingstone ©), capital structuring and CFO counseling. Worked as CFO with entrepreneurial teams in technology companies and achieved strong growth and multiple exits; high-tech, digital health (IT), medical devices and other sectors.
Kai de Vries
Kai studied tax law at the Leiden University and graduated in 1990. After military service, Kai started working for KPMG Meijburg & Co as a tax advisor in 1991, where he became tax partner in 2004. With over 25 years of experience in a general tax practice and due to his strong communication skills, Kai has become the trusted advisor for many (multi)national clients in various sectors. Client’s and colleagues praised Kai for his technical skills, which led Kai to become a member of KPMG Meijburg’s opinion committee as well as the new partner appointment committee. Kai’s key aspiration is to design and implement tailored solutions that optimally serve the client’s needs and can withstand challenge from the tax authorities. Kai is highly experienced in negotiating with the tax authorities and he has a key area of expertise in private equity and management equity plans that is founded on a long-term co-operation with Willem Vunderink.
Michiel Adriaanse
Michiel studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Delft, laying a solid foundation in mathematics and developing a keen interest in technology investments. He continued education later on with an MBA degree from the London Business School and is also an certified alternative investment analyst (CAIA). He started working in the management consulting industry for 8 years with a focus on strategy and corporate finance in technology markets lastly with PwC. His clients where either large technology driven companies making new investments or starting companies in the technology space.
Subsequently he moved into investment banking for a period of 11 years with ABN AMRO and Deutsche Bank, with a focus on leveraged finance, structured finance and project finance. Within banking he was known for doing the most complex transactions, especially those in technology driven industries, some of these transactions in joint co-operation with Willem as tax advisor on that same transaction.
In 2014, Michiel continued with DWS Alternatives as head of Sustainable Investment Specialists, responsible for fundraising and structuring of DWS’s private equity and private debt funds active amongst others in the renewable energy and agriculture space.
Joost de Vries
All-round international CFO in the Mid-Market, with over twenty years of solid business and finance management experience, build on over 15 years working in big four audit firm. Trained as RA (Dutch CPA) and member of the Dutch professional practice body (NBA). Worked for over 15 years with private equity in a leveraged environment. Was last CFO of Lucas Bols NV, listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange in 2015. Strong business acumen, commercial and relationship skills. Experience in implementing change, strategy, buy and build, turn-around, financing, M&A, IPO and managing partnerships. Gained extended governance experience as executive and non-executive board member, in both public as well as private environment. Establishing rapport at all levels through an open, practical and honest style. Analytically strong and ability to keep things simple. High degree of ethical standards and personal commitment.
Gert van Oort
Gert graduated as a chartered accountant (registeraccountant) from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1996. During his professional career at PWC he has audited many different mid corporate companies especially in the technology industry.
In 2003 Gert decided to change roles and joined Veen Bosch & Keuning Uitgeversgroep (VBK). Private equity owner CVC started an exit process shortly after. As a hands-on CFO Gert was recognized for the quality of his management accounts, also during the recession and a declining book market. Gert managed several acquisitions, restructured the finance team, and organized – in close cooperation with the management team - the funding of the Management Buy Out in 2012.
Since 2017, Gert has been using all his skills and abilities to stabilize the financial department of companies in a turbulent phase of their lifecycle. The core competence of Gert is to provide companies with reliable information. In private equity environments, Gert professionalizes the financial department and the financial reportings, brings calmness and is a trusted sounding board for senior management.
Onno Paymans
Onno studied economics at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam after which he started working in the insurance industry at the Rotterdam based Bloemers Nassau Group. He gained hands-on experience in underwriting, asset management, and international business development. After selling the Group’s Life, and Non-Life insurance companies through an auction process, he became CEO of Meijers in 2012; one of the leading independent commercial insurance brokers in the NL. His tenure ended in 2019 after which Onno became advisor to private equity firms, supported a number of start-ups and scale-ups, and was appointed as Supervisory Board member for a number of companies. Some of which are regulated by DNB and the AFM. Onno has an extensive network in the financial industry, and has been instrumental in developing the MEP-Insurance.
